1. GATHER MATERIALS
For best results, we recommend using an arts and crafts knife, a misting spray bottle, and a small, 4" squeegee. These can all be purchased in our Pro Application Kit available on Inkdt.com. You will also need masking tape, glass cleaner, paper towels and a cutting board. For application without the Pro Application Kit, scissors, a common spray bottle with water or glass cleaner, and a credit card can be used for similar results.
2. REMOVE OUTER SKIN GRAPHICS
Peel away and discard any extra graphics around your skin, including any holes for knobs, pickups, etc. Only the artwork to be applied to your guitar should remain on the paper backing.
3. CUT OUT SKIN
Trim away the excess paper around your skin, including any holes for knobs, pickups, etc. You will want to cut close; about 1/16" is recommended.
4. REMOVE STRINGS
Depending on the size of your skin, you may need to remove the strings and any hardware including pickguards, knobs, saddles, and bridges. Most hardware should remove easily with a screw driver. Knobs should be able to be pulled straight off with a firm grip.
5. CLEAN YOUR GUITAR
Spray the glass cleaner on a clean paper towel and wipe down the body of your guitar to ensure nothing will get trapped between the skin and your guitar.
6. TAPE IN PLACE
With your skin still on the paper backing, position it in place on top of your guitar. Then, lightly tape the top half down to keep the skin from moving.
7. START APPLICATION
Peel the bottom half of the skin apart from the backing and cut away the exposed paper backing. Next, lightly mist the back of the skin with your spray bottle and slowly lay the skin into place. Smooth from the center out with the squeegee to work out any wrinkles or air bubbles. If needed, the skin can be peeled back and repositioned.
8. FINISH APPLICATION
Remove the tape and the rest of the paper backing, lightly mist, and apply. Continue to smooth out any wrinkles or air bubbles with the squeegee until you are happy with the look.
9. WIPE DRY
Take a new, clean paper towel and wipe down your guitar.
10. INSPECT & REINSTALL STRINGS
Double check your application. Any air bubbles you may have missed can still be removed with a light pin prick. When you are satisfied with your application, reinstall any strings or hardware you may have removed and enjoy the new look of your guitar!
